 SAFETY ASSESSOR (Clichy, France)

We are L’Oréal. We don’t just create brands, we shape the way the world experiences beauty (and that takes a lot of exciting careers). Intrigued?

A Day in the Life

Within our Worldwide Safety Evaluation (WSE) team, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the beauty products loved by millions around the globe. Reporting to the Safety Evaluation leadership, you will collaborate with a diverse team of experts across France, the US, and China, working closely with Regulatory, Claim Substantiation, and Microbiology teams to transform scientific excellence into real-world consumer safety.

Your main responsibilities will be:

1. Advanced Safety Assessment & Hazard Characterization

  • Identify and characterize potential toxicological hazards of cosmetic ingredients using the Read-across approach (structural, non-biological, and biological analogy).
  • Identify data gaps and propose New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), including in silico and in vitro assays to enhance assessment.
  • Implement Next-Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA) and define testing programs (in vitro and clinical) for raw materials and formulas.

2. Strategic Collaboration & Innovation

  • Partner closely with Research and Innovation (R&I) labs and key stakeholders to assess innovative ingredients and future products.
  • Extend safety evaluation beyond traditional cosmetics to include packaging and non-conventional product formats.
  • Proactively seek ways to challenge the status quo by implementing innovative safety strategies that improve R&I processes.

3. Regulatory Strategy & Scientific Advocacy

  • Generate high-quality regulatory documentation and address post-marketing safety challenges.
  • Contribute to ingredient defense dossiers considering international regulations, environmental factors, and product innovations.
  • Act as a L'Oréal Ambassador, representing the Group at scientific organizations, workshops, and industry task forces to advocate for our global safety standards.

We Are Looking For

  • Scientific excellence combined with a pragmatic, results-oriented mindset.
  • Proactive attitude with a high sense of responsibility and project ownership.
  • Data & Digital oriented: comfortable with digital tools and data-driven scientific approaches.
  • Collaborative spirit and excellent communication skills in multicultural environments.
  • Agile and solutions-oriented: able to manage competing priorities and think "outside the box."

You are the ideal candidate if you have:

  • A PhD and/or Master’s degree in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Veterinary Science, Chemistry, or Biology.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in toxicology, including a proven track record as a Safety Assessor in the industry (Chemicals, Pharma, Cosmetics, Food, etc.) or regulatory agencies.
  • Experience across multiple sectors is considered a significant plus.
  • Full professional fluency in English (French is a plus).

What’s In It For You

Life is too short for a boring career. That’s why at L’Oréal, you don’t just start a job; you embark on an adventure. You will be encouraged to take risks, challenge the status quo, and leave your mark on the future of the beauty industry through scientific excellence.

  • An environment where you can step out of your comfort zone and grow beyond your potential.
