Operational Buyer

The Procurement Function mission is universal to all business Divisions & Corporate Functions: Supporting L'Oréal UK&I in offering the best in cosmetics innovation to the greatest number of people. We help the business manage £300m worth of expenditure, ensuring every £1 is spent better, smarter.

The Operational Buyer reports into the Head of Operational Purchasing and contributes to the efficiency of the Purchasing department & the business stakeholders within our supply portfolio. This role must also respect the internal control rules, to follow suppliers’ risk and to feed L’Oreal for the Future our corporate social responsibility programme.

The Operational buyer is clearly oriented toward the Business and is the key interconnector of business Teams in this indirect procurement role, creating the conditions for trust and delivering high service level: become a relevant business partner.

You Will:

Quickly develop a solid understanding of Business needs and priorities through recurrent contacts and formal meetings together with the category Sourcing Leads.
Jointly define purchasing strategy with Sourcing team, organise advance action plans to benefit from market opportunities 
Anticipate business activity and proactively contribute to build, share, and apply the category strategy, using the category network
Receive & challenge briefs from the business, bring value and expertise based with the knowledge of the Suppliers by Category
Optimise costs based on the validated briefs, organize an efficient follow-up of the projects in order to guarantee the cost, the quality, the on-time delivery and the service levels
Operate short term or non-recurrent RFPs in alignment with Sourcing Buyers
Develop deep knowledge of the business needs, expectations, priorities and goals across the indirect spend categories and anticipate new sourcing and future solutions, in partnership with the Sourcing Buyer
Analyse business needs and challenge demand; collect, understand and challenge stakeholders needs and promote demand management. Apply Value Add methodology to optimize quality, service and cost
Contribute to supplier evaluation based on all operations managed by Suppliers inc formal evaluation of the total performance (price, quality, innovation, service and sustainability)
Create the condition to build strong relationships with our Suppliers on and in accordance with the internal control / ethical way of interacting, with the Sourcing Lead
Follow and guarantee the contracts and commercial agreements negotiated with each Supplier jointly with the Sourcing Team
Support the change following implementation of any new solutions, new ways of working internally including part of the training in conjunction with the Sourcing Team
Manage performance & efficiency, build cost forecasts, manage KPIs, build continuous improvement strategy for financial and non-financial KPIs, ensuring data quality throughout
Consolidate and challenge Preferred Supplier List and update any associated pricing catalogues
Support the Budget process by identifying opportunities. Accountable for tracking the realisation of savings in year with stakeholders linked to your initiatives or projects, in collaboration with Performance Manager
Utilisation of the e-procurement tools (e.g. MySourcing and MyMarket) and guarantee accurate data in these systems
Roll out and maintain sourcing initiatives: contracts, purchasing process, strategies

You Have: 

  • Relevant experience in Purchasing (or product development) in particular in the purchasing process and rules
  • FMCG experience desirable 
  • Ability to propose value-add creative solutions as well as managing any risks
  • Experience and ownership of the budget process and accountability for delivery
  • Excellence in stakeholder management and strong business partnering skills in a complex, matricial and numerous network
  • Strong and collaborative communication skills, ability to adapt to change and determined to challenge business way of working
  • Strong experience in change management and oriented towards the business users experience
  • Agile and open to frequent change (in particular in briefs…)
  • Strong organisational skills
  • An analytical mindset and background in complex data analysis
  • Ability to work in an ever changing & demanding customer centric environment
