Physicochemical Properties Engineer – In Vitro Test Methods Development 

Location: Chevilly- Larue

Contract Type: Full-Time (CDI)

Department: Lab Automation /Digital transformation/ R&I 

 

About the Role: 

 

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative engineer with 3 to 5 years of experience in physico-chemical characterization drive the development and validation of cutting-edge in vitro test methods for cosmetic products. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strong communication skills, working collaboratively to ensure that our methods meet industry standards while fostering innovation and sustainability. Within an innovative context and in collaboration with L'Oréal’s R&I and all métiers, your key responsibilities are:


  • Method Development & Validation : 

    • Design, optimize, and validate robust in vitro test methods for the QC and vitro performances of cosmetic products in compliance with R&I. 
    •  
    • Identify the most appropriate synthetic substrate(s) and the product application to explore the vitro instrumental performances 
    •  
    • Design experiments using various characterization techniques (mechanical, optical, robotic, etc.)
    •  
    • Lead method transfer initiatives to automatization teams, troubleshooting and resolving technical challenges to ensure smooth implementation FR and Hubs 
  • Experimental Design & Data-Driven Insights: 
    • Plan and execute complex experiments using design of experiments methodology to identify the optimal method/characterization according to the test objective of techniques 
    •  
    • Ensure the robustness of reproducibility of the protocol/ method using a statical approach 
    •  
    • Utilize data tools (e.g., JMP, Python, R, Minitab) to analyze raw data, structure the data and translate findings into actionable recommendations for method refinement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : 
    • Partner with the different departments of R&I (formulation labs-métiers, Evaluation Intelligence, Operational Excellence, Digital transformation department to integrate test methods seamlessly into the product lifecycle, ensuring that, quality, and performance targets are met.

    • Partner with IT to digitalize the global data flow 
    •  
    • Present technical results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through clear, concise reports and presentations.
  • Documentation & Compliance :
    • Maintain meticulous laboratory records, author comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and prepare technical reports. 
    • Ensure that all testing methods comply with our internal quality standards and current data digitalization process 
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
    • Monitor emerging technologies, regulatory trends, and market demands within the cosmetics sector to propose continuous enhancements to testing methodologies.
    • Champion sustainable lab practices that minimize environmental impact while optimizing resource use and operational efficiency.

 

Required Qualifications :

 


  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline (Ph.D. is a plus) 
  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in physicochemical analysis, with proven expertise in developing and validating in vitro test methods for cosmetic products.
  • Proficiency in mechanical, optical and analytical- spectroscopic techniques as well as experience with statistical software (JMP, Python, R, or Minitab).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a demonstrated track record of addressing complex analytical challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in fast-paced, cross-functional teams.
