Section 2:  Job Summary 

The Art Director is responsible for leading the ideation, development, design and execution of all retail/stores/chains point of sale creative asset needs. The person in this role must constantly keep the customer experience as a top priority while strategically and conceptually leading and executing the brand experience from the smallest detail to the biggest picture. They are responsible for ensuring every consumer touch point is in line with the brand charter in partnership with a team of designers, in house creative staff and under the direction of the AVP – Creative Lead 

Section 3:  Job Requirements 


  • College degree (BFA, BA, or AAS) in visual arts or other creative fields preferred. High school diploma required. 

  • 5+ years of experience in branding and design with a focus on retail creative and physical spaces 

  • 5+ years creative or related field experience, preferably with beauty industry 

  • 2+ years Art Direction experience (managing and directing 1-2 Jr. Designers) 

  • Design in 2D and 3D for retail environments 

  • Partner with Visual Merchandiser to design and develop retail environments including signage, fixtures and wholesale pop ups 

  • Work in close partnership with Creative team, Product Development, Retail, and Operations teams, leading the design process and understanding the brand needs 

  • Ensure all retail build outs meet cost and business objectives 

  • Drive innovation based on current market trends 

  • Continue to optimize, streamline, and evolve the packaging process and brand visuals through retail and wholesale 

  • Responsible for brand touchpoints in a physical space such as printed collateral and retail location marketing 

  • Help strategize new opportunities and improvements to the consumer experience 

  • Experience overseeing the entire packaging and retail development process from concept through execution, including vendor communication and management 

  • Deep understanding of structural design, printing, materials and manufacturing process 

  • Proven experience in creating a consistent and comprehensive brand expression across multiple retail platforms required.  

  • Proven experience in creative design for global brands required 

  • Ability to articulate clear business direction and strategies; to motivate and inspire creative team. Also, to liaise between different departments, participate in senior level management discussions and facilitate the creative process at all levels. 

  • Candidate must have thorough knowledge of the creative process, including practical implementation, in order to effectively gauge workloads and deadline expectations. 

  • Financial acumen to manage budgets for category specific creative executions  

  • Solid understanding of visual design fundamentals and how to execute them 

  • Deep knowledge of the latest design trends 

  • Strong organizational and project management skills 

  • Strong ability to plan and proactively anticipate project needs 

  • Ability to make quick decisions, problem solve and multi-task 

  • Strong execution, leadership and consensus building/decision making skills 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required to effectively manage relationships with diverse international internal and external contacts 

  • Excellent written/oral communication skills 

  • Exceptional craftsmanship skills and attention to detail 

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative suite (MAC-based) 

  • Great typography skills 

  • Computer literacy on Windows, iOS, MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.   

  • Ability to travel domestically periodically (max. 25%). 

  • Knowledge of the fashion and beauty business preferred 

  • Multiple language skills are a plus. 


Section 4:  Judgment and Decision Making 


This position requires limited supervision. An ideal candidate will work autonomously to complete projects and assignments as well as work cross functionally to achieve short and long-term brand objectives.

Office based role with long periods of sitting and computer work. Minimal physical activities, lifting up to 25lbs. required occasionally. Travel required up to 25% as well.

  1. In conjunction with the AVP Creative Lead and brand creative leads, support PPD US DMI’s brand identity and translate it throughout the entire creative process 


  1. Lead the development and production of innovative and interactive store merchandising, signage across PPD US’s retail stores and chain environment 


  1. Manage secondary image assets needed for instore display graphics 


  1. Direct design team in the execution of these assets to maintain consistency and best practices across all brands. 


  1. Manage outside vendors including briefing, timing and budgeting for specific retail store led projects 


  1. Responsible for the creative direction and execution of all in-store merchandising displays, signages, graphics etc. 


  1. Stay up-to-date on all best practices and store updates for all brands retail stores and chains 



  1. Work closely with retail/chain partners, display vendors, engineers, graphic vendors, internal retail/marketing teams to ensure our brand’s identity are translated properly
