A Day in the Life
As a Plant Engineer at our Nairobi Plant, you’ll be at the heart of our manufacturing operations, ensuring that our processes are efficient, safe, and sustainable. Reporting to the Plant Director, you’ll work with a diverse team to optimize production, manage innovative projects, and integrate cutting-edge technology. Your role will directly contribute to creating beauty that moves the world while upholding the highest standards of environmental responsibility.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- System Design and Implementation: Designing and implementing plant systems and processes to improve overall efficiency and reduce operational costs. This includes developing specifications for new manufacturing & filling equipment.
- Resource Management: Develop & monitor the plant’s engineering budget and control costs within pre-defined limits.
- Maintenance Management: Developing and overseeing the preventive maintenance schedule to ensure the optimal performance and reliability of all equipment and machinery. This also encompasses corrective maintenance on identified/reported faults, as well as driving autonomous maintenance by line operators.
- Compliance, Safety & Quality: Ensuring that all operations strictly adhere to safety & quality guidelines and environmental standards through risk assessments, proactive implementation of corrective actions, and guarantee that all legally required equipment inspections/verifications are met.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Track and report on the following KPIs.
- Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) / Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
- Maintenance Cost per Unit Produced.
- Utility Consumption per Unit Output (Energy, Water).
- Process Optimization: Analyze existing processes and systems to pinpoint areas of improvement. Implement best practices and integrate new technologies, all with the goal of streamlining manufacturing, filling lines and utilities for optimal efficiency.
- Project Management: Lead and manage projects related to plant operations while ensuring completion in a timely manner and within budget.
- Training and Development: Assessment of training needs for Engineering technicians and technical line operators and implementing the training program to foster a skilled workforce.
We Are Looking For
A proactive, hands-on problem-solver with a strong drive for continuous improvement and innovation. You should be capable of optimizing production processes, managing diverse projects related to machinery and technology implementation ensuring maintenance and reliability, and upholding the highest standards of quality and safety, including a deep commitment to environmental responsibility.
You’ll thrive in this role if you have:
- A Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Production Engineering, Industrial engineering or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or production environment, with a specific focus on plant engineering, is preferred.
- Technical proficiency in engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and plant operations, and technical infrastructure including familiarity with design software (e.g. AutoCAD and SolidWorks) electronics programming, and various plant management tools, as well as knowledge on utilities management
- Experience managing projects, budgets, and resources effectively.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- A commitment to sustainability and adaptability to changing conditions.
