L’Oréal Breaks the Taboo – Sandrine’s Story (Share & Care Program)
This video presents Alban, Global Programs Manager at L’Oréal, recounting the sudden disruption caused by a cancer diagnosis at age 35 while in peak physical health. Filmed navigating corporate corridors, contemporary meeting rooms, and vibrant outdoor settings, he details the physical and psychological toll of treatment along with his successful return to work. He illustrates how medical staff, social workers, and the Share & Care framework provide a reassuring safety net for employees.

Sandrine (Category Business Leader): Basically, at the beginning, I was told it can be an infection. And at the end of the day, it was cancer.

Sandrine (Category Business Leader): It was my summer holidays. Two days after, I was supposed to go to Spain, actually. For some weeks, I kind of knew that something was wrong, and I went to see the doctor, actually near my work. And he said, "You need to go to the emergencies."

Sandrine (Category Business Leader): And I stayed in the hospital for 18 days. And the diagnosis took a bit, like 12 days to come, but at least it was found. It was hard to hear because I was 35 years old.

Sandrine (Category Business Leader): I had a daughter. Because she was two years old, it was hard for her to go to the hospital.

Sandrine (Category Business Leader): So it's my partner who told her, and he said, "Your mum is ill, and she's at the hospital, and people are going to take care of her, and she will be fine."

Sandrine (Category Business Leader): Thanks to the Share & Care program, I got a lot of support. Basically, I was part of some kind of network with a lot of people. Unfortunately, from my division who faced that situation.

Sandrine (Category Business Leader): So it was also very good to be able to talk to people who actually knew what you were facing. And so the mentorship was very, very important and very key for me, and it helped me a lot.
[Visual: Sandrine focused on writing and working on her laptop]
Sandrine (Category Business Leader): I think the advice I would give first for people facing cancer is that there is no good way to face the situation, as when you become parents, you know, people are going to tell you a lot of things. But the most important is how you want to deal with it.
[Visual: Sandrine laughing genuinely, then touching her hair with a smile]
Sandrine (Category Business Leader): Actually, it's been one year, and like I'm here, and with my hair, [Laughs] my curly hair!

Sandrine (Category Business Leader): I'm Sandrine, I'm 36 years old, and I've been working for L'Oréal for nine years now in marketing.
