L’Oréal Breaks the Taboo – Guillaume’s Story (Share & Care Program)

This video features Guillaume, Former International Brand President at L’Oréal, breaking the silence surrounding men's health and his battle with prostate cancer. Set within modern corporate offices, meeting lounges, and landscaped outdoor campus areas, he discusses the emotional shock of the diagnosis and the importance of addressing vulnerabilities openly. Through his 38-year career perspective, he emphasizes how the Share & Care program actively supports employees through serious medical challenges.

Guillaume (Former International Brand President): Men don't want to talk about it. There's a kind of taboo.

Guillaume (Former International Brand President): I come from a family that's had a lot of prostate cancer, so I knew that potentially, one day, it might happen to me. So I was being followed very regularly.

Guillaume (Former International Brand President): One day, I decided to see a different doctor. He advised me to take a new test, which I did one month later.

Guillaume (Former International Brand President): The urologist asked me to stay in his office a little longer. "You have prostate cancer." [Laughs slightly] We tell ourselves: "Damn!"

Guillaume (Former International Brand President): There are two important things that we say to ourselves: There's the evocative power of the word "cancer", it’s a tsunami. The second thing is the total lack of knowledge about cancer. "What exactly is prostate cancer? What’s going to happen to my everyday life? In my body? In my head?" I was in a total desert.

Guillaume (Former International Brand President): I was lucky to be surrounded by friends and family, and even in the professional world. Because it's an extremely complex subject, even more difficult to share in the professional world.

Guillaume (Former International Brand President): The ability to bear witness to one's vulnerability becomes something of a privilege, very important, and lowering the level of fear and apprehension. That seemed essential to me.

Guillaume (Former International Brand President): And in that context, I was very impressed by L'Oréal's Share & Care program. This ability to support, to listen, to promote careers even for people who are facing this type of problem. I think it's extremely important, and I think L'Oréal does it very, very well.

Guillaume (Former International Brand President): My name is Guillaume. I'm 61 years old. I've spent 38 years of my life at L'Oréal, where I had an absolutely fascinating career.
