In this video from the L’Oréal Breaks the Taboo series, Blanca Juti, Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer at L’Oréal, shares her personal journey facing cancer while holding an executive leadership role. Filmed across bright office corridors, quiet library spaces, and collaborative work areas, she reflects on the emotional impact of her diagnosis and the support received through L'Oréal's Share & Care program. Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): I haven't been afraid. I'm not so much afraid of dying as afraid of not living fully.

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): One year ago, on a Monday morning, I went to the doctor. My doctor told me, "Madam, you have cancer." I already had the intuition that this would happen, but it’s still a big moment when you hear it.

[Visual: Close-up of Blanca seated by a window, reflective and looking outside]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): For me, the big thing when I heard those words was my children, my husband and my children. The saddest thing is to think, "Could something prevent me from seeing my kids grow up?"

[Visual: Blanca attending and speaking in a team meeting with colleagues around a conference table]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): I waited, with this knowledge, even though I had to represent the Group during the whole day. Something you took for granted, which was your health, now you couldn’t anymore.

[Visual: Blanca working intently on her computer at her desk facing large panoramic windows]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): The cancer had different stages. So the first thing was to have an operation, and after the operation, to have a period of recovery and then to have radiation. I could avoid the chemo, which was a very lucky thing for me.

[Visual: Close-up of Blanca talking warmly, then close-up of her hands clasped together]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): My kids really demanded that I really let the things sink in and really look after myself.

[Visual: Blanca conversing comfortably in a lounge area with two colleagues]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): So, that helped me to make the decision that I will stay at home for five weeks while I go through my treatment, which I’d never done, and I will look after myself.

[Visual: Blanca checking her mobile phone on the sofa]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): I sent a message to my boss by WhatsApp just to let him know. I was very touched because he didn’t answer. Instead, he came to see me, and he looked at me in the eye, and he told me: "I’ll support you."

[Visual: Team members smiling, engaging in discussion during a meeting]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): And I decided to tell the team, who were extremely supportive. It was the five most intense weeks of the year. We had an event every single week. When they wanted, they could call me, and we could ping-pong things. But really, those five weeks, they were leading, and they did it amazingly.

[Visual: Blanca presenting to an engaged group of colleagues who applaud and smile warmly]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): I was really given the space to recover while I felt their deep care.

[Visual: Blanca sharing coffee, smiling, and laughing in the hallway with a colleague]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): After my illness, I take now time to see my friends. I love it.

[Visual: Blanca exercising on a treadmill in the gym, followed by weight training with a personal trainer]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): And I exercise every day. And I have more joy in things. And when you remove the ego, which I think happens after an illness, you are less judging yourself.

[Visual: Colleagues smiling, Blanca laughing warmly in a lounge room]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): It’s given me a huge appreciation for life. However long I have left, and I hope it’s long, I will enjoy it.

[Visual: Blanca addressing a group of attentive colleagues]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): There’s something very special of L’Oréal. It’s this idea of accompanying people, that anybody who is sick is supported by Share & Care. There are many actions in place to help employees cope with the difficulty and to feel part of the family.

[Visual: Blanca looking at the camera with a confident, warm smile]

Blanca Juti (Chief Corporate Affairs & Engagement Officer): I am Blanca, Blanca Juti, and I head Corporate Affairs and Engagement for the L’Oréal Groupe.
