A Day in the Life

The Store Design Manager will work on fixture layouts and design drawings for each retail store from schematic design through construction drawings within specific retail guidelines, manage fixture & material schedules for each project and ensure an on-time installation.  This position will be responsible for space planning and producing design documents, including the development of store fixture design to support the merchandising programs and corporate initiatives.

Requirements

•5+ years of related experience
•Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines
•Uses knowledge of internal business issues to improve practices and procedures
•Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions
•Works independently, receives minimal guidance
•May lead projects or project steps within a broader project or may have accountability for on-going activities or objectives
•Comprehensive knowledge of retail department store environments including ADA guidelines  
•Thorough knowledge of store design disciplines, building and code knowledge, fixture design, construction materials and manufacturing processes  
•Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, customer service, and time management skills.  
•Computer efficiency is required in AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Photo Shop, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.  
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
•Able to work independently and as part of a team and must have good time management skills.  
•Self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple projects and shift priorities as needed  
•Industry & current trend knowledge in VM & SD  

Responsibilities

•Consult directly with the Store Planning team to review assignments, define deliverables at initial briefings and manage through to completion.  
• Draft complete design document packages for new & remodeled retail store interiors from conceptual design through design development.  
• Collaborate as needed with digital rendering specialist to ensure design intent is maintained and illustrated effectively.  
• Assist in the development of block plans for all assigned projects  
• Build and manage sketch up library to be used by international affiliates  
• Work closely with a cross-functional groups from numerous departments to include Merchandising, Operations, IT, & Construction among others to create comprehensive fixture designs that satisfy the needs of all departments  
• Assist with sourcing manufacturing of new projects once the design has been finalized  
• Negotiate with prospective manufacturers regarding sample design costs, tooling, and timing  
• Review samples with the vendor’s representatives to ensure that all specifications have been properly followed and are approved for production  
• Create “design intent” drawings to be used in the sourcing of new fixture systems and displays for use in existing stores, as well as for new and remodel store programs  
• Support store execution with managing of detailed design/installation guides to help ensure flawless execution.  
 Track all production to ensure that each project is delivered on time and within the specified budget.
