Senior Scientific Advisor (Maternity Cover)



YOU WILL..
Lead and develop a team of Scientific Advisors.
Have overall accountability for claim development from a Scientific perspective.
Apply the Group’s Claims strategy and ensure the appropriate implementation of regulations, particularly cosmetic and device regulations, for the development and commercialisation of products.
Advise and provide scientific and technical support for multiple brands marketed by L’Oréal UK and Ireland across the entire division. Enable brands to make the most compelling product claims on communication materials including packaging and advertising consistent with European and national regulatory and advertising requirements.
Ensure scientific support throughout the products’ communication plans.
Build strong and collaborative relationships, with both internal and external stakeholders.
Represent the group in exchanges with authorities and professional associations, including the CTPA, ASA and MHRA, to safeguard the Group's position.
Manage cross-disciplinary projects initiated within the regulatory/Claims network.
Drive excellence in Creative and Scientific Communication, in alignment with UK market trends
Contribute to the definition of the Divisional Claims strategies.
Daily interaction with Marketing and PR Departments for all Divisions and also Customer/Trade teams
Review and approval of communication materials for multiple brands
Regular collaboration with the UK legal team, international claims groups and international regulatory groups
Represent brands from a technical standpoint at press launches or trade presentations where required
Work with Consumer Markets and Insights team to develop local consumer test plans
Obtain clearance of TV and Radio advertising through submission of technical dossiers to the relevant authorities, including Clearcast and Radiocentre
Defend against UK Advertising complaints

YOU HAVE...
Minimum honours degree in one of the life sciences particularly, pharmacology, chemistry, biology or biochemistry.
5-10 years experience in a related FMCG role in the cosmetic industry, including strong demonstrated ability in regulatory and scientific affairs.
Strong experience in the beauty care/dermatology area.
Excellent product knowledge and techniques used for claims substantiation.
Leadership and management skills including coaching and training scientific teams.
Excellent command of the English language and its subtleties. With the ability to articulate and express ideas and concepts fluently and persuasively both orally and in writing, particularly in simplifying complex scientific issues.
Ability to understand scientific material, internalise it rapidly and “translating” it into simple consumer language thus helping marketing departments formulating product claims. Open to reception of new ideas and willing to explore alternatives.
High degree of analytical skills and think through creative solutions.
Strong interpersonal skills and capable of building good effective relationships with internal and external contacts. Must be a team player.
Pays attention to detail as well as looking at the wider picture.
