L’Oréal Safety, Regulatory, Claim & Microbiology (SRCM) team with its Scientific and Regulatory Affairs team in the field worldwide, plays essential role to ensure products safety, quality and in compliance with global regulation.


About the Role

L'Oréal is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Director to join our team in Japan. This pivotal role ensures the compliance of all products marketed in Japan, contributing significantly to L'Oréal's license to operate, business expansion and sustainability. As a true champion for compliance, you will drive our regulatory strategy while embodying L'Oréal's core values of innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, open-mindedness, quest for excellence, and responsibility.


Key Responsibilities

【 Leadership & Strategy 

  • Lead and inspire a high-performing team responsible for Japan, implementing L'Oréal's regulatory strategy within, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and high performance.
  • Set clear team objectives, continuously improve practices, and drive process optimization with meticulous organization and accuracy.
  • Develop and execute a proactive regulatory strategy for Japan. anticipating and addressing evolving legislation with ambition, foresight, and a solution-oriented approach.


【 Regulatory Compliance, Intelligence and Advocacy

  • Ensure full regulatory compliance throughout the product lifecycle, from development to market launch and post-market surveillance, holding yourself and the team accountable for upholding the highest standards.
  • Oversee and ensure the effectiveness of all L’Oréal and local compliance policies and procedures, approaching challenges with creativity and openness to new ideas.
  • Act as a scientific advisor to the Country Manager, business units, and corporate functions on product safety, communication, and regulatory issues, building strong relationships based on trust and expertise.
  • Represent L'Oréal within professional associations, fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders like competent authorities, KOLs, and business partners, leveraging exceptional communication and influencing skills.
  • Contribute to L'Oréal's international regulatory strategy through proactive monitoring of local and global regulatory trends and active participation in issue management.
  • Contribute to develop competitive product communication strategies that are compliant with all applicable regulations and L'Oréal's ethical standards.


【 Cooperation 

  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across Marketing, Operations, Sales, Legal, Public Affairs, and Corporate Communications, embracing a team-oriented approach and recognizing the strength of collective success.
  • Partner effectively with L'Oréal's Scientific, Regulatory, and Claims Microbiology (SRCM) teams in France, regional hubs, and other countries, demonstrating empathy and respect for diverse perspectives.


Your Profile

  • Master's degree in a scientific discipline (Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Toxicology, …).
  • Fluency in Japanese and English is essential.
  • Proven expertise in the regulatory environment governing the beauty industry in Japan.
  • Prior experience leading a Regulatory Affairs team is highly desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proactive and strategic thinker with a strong risk management approach, capable of providing creative solutions to complex challenges.
  • A collaborative and inspiring leader who can empower teams to achieve high performance.
