In the department Innovation Direction, we are looking for a Japan Competitive Watch and Fast Track Manager. The objective of this position is to inspire R&I & DMI with what's trending from competition in the beauty market and bring fast innovations to DMI to respond to the most interesting launches by competition

Location :  Kanagawa, Japan 



Your main responsibilities are : 


  • Screen the Japan competition activities in skincare, makeup and hair (priority), device and beauty supplements through various sources of information (sales data, key brands launch & rankings, web-listening, vendors’ offers, communities
  • Organize field expeditions in Japan cosmetics landscape (market visits, beauty exhibitions, hair salon hairdressers interviews) 
  • Strategically synthetize competition activity under rising trends, brands, products and ingredients 
  • Contribute from JP perspective, in creation of a NA quarterly innovation watch report, destinated to all L’Oreal DMIs world wide


  • From the Competitive Watch, order interesting products and organize touch & feel sessions with labs & DI
  • Assist in the creation of the pool of best candidates with labs, DI, global FT
  • Prepare the meetings with top management for final selection through:
    • Context (consumers, market, trends)
    • Concept / pre-positioning 
    • Technical decoding from the labs
  • Manage each project: 
    • Organize and lead kick off meeting with a clear brief to align all stakeholders
    • Check status and coordinate next actions together with labs
    • Direct prototype creation (improvement points)
    • Participate to test design: test selection (instrumental/consumers/sensory), benchmark, target country and consumers, questionnaire
    • Readjust concept according to the prototype strength, techno, etc
  • Contribute from JP perspective to semestrial big RDV with top management and the DMIs to ensure transformation and scale 

To succeed in this position, you have : 

  • Passion about beauty cosmetics
  • Solid marketing background: ideally experience in product development or senior operational marketing with strong product sensitivity, creative and conceptual skills, otherwise strong interest in marketing
  • Solid project management skills to follow up on a project by involving needed counterparts and by keeping the timeline
  • Great team player capability to closely collaborate with DI FT team in China and Korea as well as Global FT team 
  • Very familiar with social media and digital tools
  • Fluency in English & Japanese
