Within Evaluation Intelligence department, The Clinical and Physics Science team focus on objective, scientific testing of innovative products in development by our laboratories. Testing methods are developed, validated, and adjusted as needed to keep up with the exploration of novel properties of new formulas, claims and striking visualization. This team also executes research and develops knowledge of hair and skin properties, including its response to environment and treatment, across various ethnicities. In addition, the team builds for the future of evaluation through digital with the development of sensors and mobile device-based tools for contextual real-life evaluation and real-time consumer engagement as well as robotization and automation.

We are looking for a Hair Instrumental Evaluation Scientist 

Type of contract: Permanent

Location: Kanagawa, Japan

 

This position will work on instrumental testing, knowledge, claims and method development specifically for hair products.


 
Job responsibilities:
 

  • Designs, proposes, and leads the instrumental test plans for innovation projects and task forces related to hair, hair products.
  • Organizes, plans, and effectively executes instrumental testing to support innovations and claims for hair products with internal resources as well as external vendors and CRO
  • Analyzes instrumental test data and write reports and memos to clearly communicate findings and share information with colleagues.
  • Collaborates with labs, international colleagues, and evaluation team to determine study design
  • Works on development of new methods and improvement of existing methods, and evaluates new equipment for use in innovation and consumer friendly visualization of benefits. 
  • Drives projects from inception to completion with quality, timeliness, and professionalism.
  • Evaluates and summarizes published literature (internal and external) on various topics surrounding hair, hair testing, and hair treatment devices
  • Prioritizes project workload with supervisor, performs project tracking, and scheduling
  • Maintains instrumentation and laboratory equipment and ensures proper operation/ maintenance documentation
     
     

To succeed in this position, you have:

 

  • Bachelor's degree with 2-5 years of relevant work experience, Master's degree with 1-2 years, or Ph.D. with 0-1 years of relevant work experience in Physics, Chemistry, Material Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience with experimental lab work, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Expertise in data processing and statistical analysis.
  • Experience with materials testing, optics/color science, and/or clinical photography (highly desirable).
  • Programming skills with computational software such as R Studio, Matlab, C++, or Java (a plus).
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills (written and oral).
  • Business-level proficiency in Japanese and English.
