What You Will Learn:

As the Record to Report (R2R) Accounting Director, you will provide strategic leadership over the organization’s entire financial closing and reporting function, ensuring absolute accuracy, integrity, and compliance with global accounting standards.

You will serve as a pivotal partner to internal and external stakeholders, delivering the precise financial insights necessary for strategic decision-making and operational excellence. In this senior role, you will proactively identify financial risks, optimize operational efficiencies, and lead high-priority transformation projects in collaboration with IT, Group Accounting, and global transformation teams to drive data quality and process innovation across the finance function.

In terms of leadership, the Director manages a team with a focus on providing technical accounting mentorship, improving ways of working, and empowering team members to drive value creation. Beyond strategic leadership, the Director remains involved in key operational tasks, such as monitoring KPIs, validating significant postings, overseeing account reconciliations, and ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting.

Job Summary

The R2R Director leads and manages different facets of the Record to Report function. This encompasses general ledger accounting, the financial close process, reconciliations, and comprehensive financial reporting. A key aspect of this role is maintaining robust financial controls, driving continuous process improvements, and ensuring strict adherence to accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The Director is also responsible for leading, developing, and mentoring a team of finance professionals, cultivating a high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Provide strong leadership, clear direction, and effective mentorship to the team.
    • Foster a collaborative environment that promotes high performance and continuous improvement.
    • Establish clear goals and objectives, monitor team performance, and deliver regular feedback and coaching.
  • Reconciliation and Analysis:
    • Manage/review Account Reconciliation for balance sheet accounts within their scope. Identify any risks, aging, and alert management
  • Compliance and Internal Controls:
    • Ensure unwavering compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
    • Collaborate effectively with both internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and promptly address any inquiries or findings.
  • Process Improvement and Optimization:
    • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline processes in thier scope, enhance controls, and optimize resource allocation to significantly improve efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Lead or actively participate in cross-functional projects aimed at implementing process improvements, system enhancements, and automation initiatives (e.g., Blackline automation).
    • Develop and diligently maintain comprehensive process documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and internal controls.
    • Drive operational effectiveness through the strategic utilization of shared service models.

Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is typically required.
  • Certifications: A Certified Public Accountant is preferred 
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of experience in a Big4 as an external auditor or technical accounting, preferred
    • 7-10 years of extensive progressive experience in accounting, finance, or a related field.
    • A minimum of 5+ years in a supervisory or managerial role, with demonstrable experience in leading teams.
    • Proficiency with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems (such as SAP), and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
    • Experience within a shared service environment is considered highly beneficial.

    • Strong technical accounting knowledge and ideally proficiency in IFRS.
    • Capability to perform comprehensive financial analysis, including ratio analysis and trend analysis.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving: Possess excellent analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and robust problem-solving abilities.
  • Leadership & Management: Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the aptitude to motivate, develop, and empower team members, and effectively manage both on-shore and off-shore teams.
  • Communication & Interpersonal: Exhibit effective communication skills (both written and verbal) and strong interpersonal skills, with the capacity to collaborate cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels. This includes strong presentation skills for reporting to management and external/internal stakeholders.
  • Organizational & Time Management: Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Process Improvement Mindset: A proactive ability to identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Integrity: Unwavering commitment to integrity, ethics, and professionalism in all financial reporting and business conduct.
