JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible to lead the SalonCentric sustainability strategy, reporting directly into the Head of Salon Centric USA and functionally into the Head of Sustainability for the Professional Products Division (PPD).

SalonCentric, a subsidiary of L’Oréal USA, is the premiere distributor in the United States of salon professional products. Through its hundreds of stores, national field sales force and sub-distribution network, SalonCentric promotes the finest professional beauty brands and educates stylists on the latest products and trends. Our mission is to help professionals achieve success in the ever-evolving beauty industry.

As a subsidiary of the L’Oréal Group, SalonCentric has long been engaged in several L4TF/ Sustainability initiatives. Together with the PPD Sustainability VP, this position will play a key role in taking SalonCentric’s sustainability commitment to the next level, in alignment with L4TF. SalonCentric’s business model, is unique within the L’Oréal Group, making the components of its strategy and its reach one-of-a-kind.

More specifically, this person will:

  • Develop SalonCentric’s Sustainability strategic frame and drive the implementation of our strategy, with a focus on Field & Retail, including:
    1. Identifying the key priorities, the goals and milestones, topic leaders, project teams, and resources needed to implement and execute roadmap.
    2. Engaging key stakeholders to drive actions consistent with our values and commitments to enhance sustainability positioning in the US by leveraging and amplifying brand causes and external NGO partnerships.
    3. Project manage the execution of the roadmap to achieve the key performance indicators for all teams. Day-to-day management of internal employee sustainability champions, teams, and projects.
  •  Build & enhance the conditions to accelerate L4TF success:
    1. Drive accountability, efficiency, best practice sharing and impact.
    2. Educate and empower employees to make individual sustainable and responsible decisions.
    3. Drive employee engagement: excite, inspire, and incentivize to drive green culture within the division.
    4. Work with Public Affairs, Media Engagement, Communications and Employee Engagement teams to ensure all local stakeholders are engaged on this topic.
  • Partner with our third-party vendors in support of our Net Zero strategy
  • Reduce our operational footprint: in stores and throughout our value chain
    1. Renewable energy goals (energy footprint for stores, rollout of EMS or energy use software, support for Net Zero strategy, etc.)
    2. Waste management and recycling strategy
    3. Sustainable store design, following LEED and WELL frameworks…amongst others
  • Influence the professional industry by promoting sustainable consumption and facilitating the salon transformation
    1. Lead the rollout of our external sustainability programs for our key stakeholders (Hairstylists for the Future)
    2. Lead collection and management of sustainability data (mainly for waste and energy)
    3. Partner with key internal stakeholders (Omnichannel, Store Operations, Visual Merchandising, Events, Social Media, etc. teams) to bring the sustainability initiatives to life
  • Reporting and share-out of sustainability progress and updates to key stakeholders 
    1. Consolidates the results (updates the L4TF scorecard) to monitor the collective progress.
    2. Animates the key L4TF meetings to review progress and owns the agenda (either specific L4TF meetings or integrated in existing key business meetings).
    3. Connects the team with the sustainability experts (country Corporate Sustainability Leader & global Division Sustainability Leader).
    4. Presents the roadmap progress during key strategic meetings. Shares L4TF updates in local townhalls, and coordinates employee engagement with support of key functional teams.
    5. Provide ad-hoc research, data collection, meeting support and analysis drafting as needed.


Skills required:

  • +6 years of relevant or related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • The ideal candidate will have sustainability knowledge or experience working in teams with exposure to sustainability initiatives
  • The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Field and Retail standard operational procedures, facilities management, and customer engagement strategies
  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental sciences, or sustainable development is a plus
  • Proven ability to collaborate with an array of different teams and successful stakeholder engagement
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Highly organized, rigorous person
  • Ability to work independently, be proactive, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced and results-driven environment
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong demonstration of data management and analytical skills
  • Creative problem-solver
  • Fast learner. Interest and curiosity for technical topics around sustainability (such as life cycle analysis, renewable energy initiatives, sustainable furnishings and materials, sustainable packaging design)
  • Passionate about driving real change and addressing the complex sustainability challenges we face
  • Knowledge of the professional hair industry is a plus
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office, including and especially Excel
