Role Overview: The Head of Medical is a pivotal leadership role responsible for defining, driving, and ensuring the robust implementation of the medical strategy for Dermatological Beauty. This position is critical in elevating the scientific legitimacy and reputation of Dermatological Beauty brands, fostering strong relationships with healthcare professionals, and ultimately increasing prescription and recommendation rates. The Head of Medical leads the medical function, ensuring excellence in medical detailing, communication, and ethical standards, while also championing L'Oréal’s sustainability commitments.


KEY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Strategic Medical Leadership & Influence:

  • Formulate and execute a comprehensive medical strategy for Dermatological Beauty, aligning with global and zonal directives, to enhance brand recognition, scientific credibility, and professional endorsement among healthcare communities.
  • Cultivate and expand the medical influence of our brands and elevate the visibility of the division within the scientific and medical landscape.
    • Spearhead the development and implementation of strategic partnerships with learned societies, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and patient associations.
    • Oversee the planning, execution, and representation of Dermatological Beauty at medical education events and critical external scientific congresses.
    • Engage, mobilize, and nurture relationships with opinion leaders, leveraging their expertise in consulting, training, and representative activities across various channels (e.g., congresses, digital platforms, media).


2. Medical Detailing Strategy & Execution Oversight:

  • Lead the definition and strategic piloting of the medical detailing strategy in close collaboration with brand management and marketing teams.
    • Determine optimal brand positioning through targeted medical indications and professional segments, adapting to local market dynamics and potential while adhering to global guidelines.
    • Identify and leverage synergies to define common and specific territories for brands, optimizing the allocation of medical detailing resources.
    • Structure, motivate, and manage effective medical detailing networks, empowering regional managers to achieve strategic objectives.
    • Develop comprehensive action plans, manage budgets, and oversee the strategic distribution of promotional materials, samples, and incentive programs.
    • Establish robust performance metrics to drive efficiency and accountability, directly correlating activities with prescription rates and sales growth.
    • Proactively seek out and establish impactful external partnerships to amplify detailing efforts and reach.


3. Excellence in Medical Detailing & Professional Development:

  • Champion the excellence and continuous professionalization of the medical detailing function.
    • Implement and ensure rigorous utilization of monitoring tools (e.g., CRM/CLM platforms) to track and optimize the activities of the medical detailing network.
    • Guarantee the provision of high-quality initial and ongoing training for medical teams, covering disease states, product knowledge, communication techniques, and ethical conduct, alongside robust assessment mechanisms.


4. Scientific Communication & Content Governance:

  • Ensure the consistent variety, superior scientific quality, and competitive edge of all medical communications.
    • Oversee the development, review, and validation of all content, tools, and services provided for healthcare professionals.
    • Validate medical detailing tools and content in close collaboration with brand management, ensuring scientific accuracy and strategic alignment.
    • Drive a comprehensive multi-channel communication strategy (on- and off-line, including congresses, websites, newsletters, webcasts, social media, press) fully integrated with marketing strategies and product launch plans.
    • Initiate and oversee local implementation of international surveys and lead local observational studies to generate relevant scientific data.


5. Cross-Functional Synergy & Organisational Development:

  • Foster robust synergies across functions and brands, championing a strong medical culture throughout the organization.
    • Actively collaborate with marketing, sales, and communication functions to ensure integrated strategies and unified market approaches.
    • Define optimal organizational structures and processes to facilitate necessary changes and drive efficiency.


6. Compliance, Ethics & Sustainability:

  • Lead and monitor competitor activities and the evolving medical environment to ensure proactive strategic adjustments.
  • Guarantee comprehensive training and strict adherence to internal policies and external ethical standards governing interactions with healthcare professionals.
  • Locally lead and champion L’Oréal’s "L’Oréal for the Future" sustainability program initiatives within the medical department.
