Job Title: Director CMI – CPD Hair

Reports To: AVP CMI – Hair and Skin

What You Will Do:

  1. Lead CMI CPD Hair at LUSA, for 3 brands: L’Oreal Paris, Garnier, and Softsheen Carson, across Haircare, Haircolor, and Styling.
  2. Communicate the most relevant, new, and actionable consumer insights to the organization, that will ultimately help brands grow their revenue and profit by driving competitive advantage: successful products and brands; communication content, activation, and consumer engagement.
  3. Be an “advisor” and trusted partner to brand teams and top management, to guide strategic decisions towards more consumer-centricity, based on consumer and market knowledge.
  4. Closely partner with other CDMO functions (data measurement, consumer engagement, media, DDX, etc.) as well as CMI Global DMI, R&I, and DPCI partners to build a holistic 360 view of our consumers, to build synergies that help our brands gain share, and influence brand strategy, launches, content creation, and the go-to-market strategy.
  5. Lead cross-category CMI initiatives that help enrich our general knowledge of the Hair consumer, key strategic cohorts, and market and provide multiple brand teams with all the information they need to drive strategies that are more consumer-centric and to ultimately grow our business (e.g. One GlObe brand health tracker, Market study to understand the evolution of hair behaviors and needs, Hair Holistic omni-channel market and consumer analysis, Hair consumer profiling study, etc.)
  6. Proactively lead the learning agenda to fill the knowledge gaps for the category, and suggest what research should be started, evolved, continued, or stopped to ultimately help grow our business.
  7. Impact top level and day-to-day business and strategy decisions for LUSA, notably, by heavily contributing to IMM Top Management meetings and Consumer Con event with 120+ top LUSA leaders.
  8. Support special projects on an ad hoc basis (new ventures for LUSA, acquisitions, etc)
  9. Proactively build new tools and suggest new approaches (e.g. AI, behavioral research, etc.) to help capture how consumers’ hair needs are evolving in a very fast changing cultural and technological landscape.
  10. CMI CPD Hair Budget and expectations management along with agency resource management
  11. Conduct research to validate launches and help grow our business for L’Oreal Paris local jewels (Ever, Feria, Colorsonic)

 

Candidate’s Success Driven In-Part Through:

  • Establishing an influential and leadership presence within the L’Oreal USA office.  Becoming a trusted strategic partner among Top Management.
  • Driving consumer insight-based recommendations which deliver category and brand growth objectives. 
  • Developing tools and deliverables that better help engage our consumers with content that connects, and that help forecast tomorrow’s trends.
  • Demonstrating flexibility and support to projects and initiatives, and balancing daily project needs while delivering against meaningful strategic priorities. 
  • Providing relevant cultural insights to the team, tracking the ever-changing attitudes & behaviors of the US consumer.
  • Demonstrating curiosity toward the evolution of the US consumer and market, and taking initiative to explore new technologies or CMI approaches to better inform, influence, and inspire the organization for everything that relates to the US consumer and market.
  • Working very autonomously, with little guidance required from the AVP of Hair and Skin.

 

Interactions:

  • The Director will form close partnerships with:
    • Leaders in Brand Marketing, Digital, and CMI/CDMO
  1. Divisional President CPD
  2. Digital and Content Creation teams
  3. Outside vendors and agencies
  4. Leaders in Cat Dev and R&I CMI
  5. Leaders and teams in CMI DMI/Global CMI Leaders 

 

What We Are Looking For

  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree required, in marketing preferably.  MBA a plus.
    • Requires minimum 10 years of industry experience, through a mix of positions/ assignments in:  market research, digital, marketing, consumer engagement, brand management, customer marketing or new product development.
    • Industry background can include mix of traditional CPG and retail assignments.
  • The successful candidate will have the following key personal qualities:

    • very strong communicator (oral, written) – able to story tell and to provide a clear POV and recommendation
    • strong strategic and critical thinking
    • ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

    • curious and willing to learn 
    • comfort with data from broad range of sources, including market sales, panels, quantitative and qualitative research
    • strong planner, organizer, and with demonstrated record of bringing a ‘strategy’ to life.
    • Exceptional track record of relationship management, problem solving, and influencing, as they will be working across many unique teams and brands.
  • Additional Key Skills:
    • Passion for beauty industry, marketing insights, and innovation (new ideas).
    • Positive approach and transparent with projects/work/plans.
