THE ROLE
The role will act as legal business partner to the DMI teams, based in London, notably the Global Marketing and Creative team. The DMI Global Marketing and Creative team is responsible for creating and commissioning the creative assets of the global business for some of L’Oréal’s key brands including Aesop. The role will provide dedicated legal advice, guidance and support to facilitate overall compliance and enable risk to be identified and mitigated in a timely fashion. This will involve:
- Providing legal support to the Global Marketing and Creative team, including:
- advising on general commercial / corporate matters;
- reviewing, drafting and amending contracts, including commercial agreements, IP licenses, creative partnership and creative production agreements;
- advising on UK IP legal matters;
- proactively considering legal matters at project conception stage;
- advising on the use of full range of assets (music, film, voice-overs, artworks, quotes etc) in marketing campaigns globally;
- management of licenses for assets used in social media;
- review of advertising claims globally;
- managing queries globally regarding counterfeit, grey market, etc
- coordinating multi-jurisdictional legal advice for asset development projects which are executed in London with the resulting assets used globally;
- conducting legal training / preparing education materials in relation to legislation and tailored to the marketing teams
- Providing legal support to all DMI teams in relation to day-to-day and ad hoc legal matters - including in relation to ESG, DEI, Comms and Engagement, Real Estate, Omnichannel, Tech / IT, intragroup arrangements
- Providing support and infrastructure for the management of Aesop’s IP rights to creative assets
- Providing administrative support where appropriate to support and monitor general legal and contractual compliance
- Supporting and reinforcing Aesop’s legal governance framework, embedding processes and procedures
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations and adherence to L’Oréal’s policies, processes and controls as applicable
- Developing strong relationships with the Marketing and Creative teams and other Aesop DMI teams
- Working closely and collaboratively with the L'Oréal network
WHO YOU ARE
- UK qualified lawyer; PQE approx. 5 - 7 years (experience in a reputable law firm and/or well-regarded in-house team)
- Any specific IP law qualifications will be looked upon favourably
- Strong proficiency in contract law and IP law
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with and manage a variety of stakeholders
- A great communicator and relationship builder - solid, clear and concise (written & verbal) communication skills (including presentation skills appropriate to PQE level) with the ability to distil complexity into simplicity
- Strong time management skills
- A curious mind and love of learning both within and outside the Legal domain in an international environment
- A flexible approach to scope of work
- An ability to manage and prioritise matters in a fast-paced/fast-turnaround environment
- An ability to work autonomously
- Commercial acumen, motivated by objectives and thriving with cultural change
- A positive ‘can do’, collaborative mind set
