Job Title: E-commerce Activations Manager – CPD
Location: Johannesburg, South Africa Division: Consumer Products Division (CPD)
Reports to: E-commerce Lead
Job Overview
As the E-commerce Activations Manager for CPD South Africa, your mission is to drive the online growth and market share of our iconic brands (such as L’Oréal Paris, Maybelline New York, Garnier, and Essie). You will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of our e-retail strategy, ensuring that our brands show up with excellence on every digital shelf.
You will sit at the intersection of sales, marketing, and digital, turning brand strategies into high-converting online activations. Your goal is to optimize the consumer journey, from the first click to the final checkout, ensuring a seamless and premium brand experience across all partner platforms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Activation & Promotional Planning
- Develop and execute a robust e-commerce promotional calendar aligned with the South African retail cycle (e.g., Payday cycles, Black Friday, Festive Season, and Back-to-School).
- Collaborate with Key Account Managers (KAMs) to negotiate visibility and premium "real estate" on retailer homepages, newsletters, and category pages.
- Tailor global brand campaigns for the local e-commerce environment to maximize relevance and conversion.
2. Digital Shelf Excellence & Content Management
- Own the "Digital Shelf" by ensuring all products have high-quality assets: 7+ images, engaging videos, SEO-optimized titles, and compelling A+ descriptions.
- Monitor and improve the "Search Power" of our products on retailer sites, ensuring our brands appear in the top results for key category terms.
- Manage the product information flow between L’Oréal and our retail partners to ensure 100% accuracy in stock availability and pricing.
3. Performance Marketing & Media Collaboration
- Work closely with the Digital Media team to align Search (SEA) and Social (Paid) traffic with e-retailer promotions.
- Analyze the Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) for retail media investments and pivot strategies based on real-time data.
- Liaise with retailers to leverage their first-party data for targeted on-site advertising.
4. Data Analysis & Commercial Reporting
- Track and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including Market Share, Conversion Rates, Average Order Value (AOV), and Out-of-Stock (OOS) rates.
- Conduct regular "Store Checks" (digital audits) of partner websites to ensure brand compliance and competitive pricing.
- Provide actionable insights to the CPD leadership team regarding competitor activities and emerging e-commerce trends in the South African market.
5. Stakeholder Management
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with E-commerce buyers and digital marketing leads at major South African retailers.
- Work cross-functionally with Supply Chain to ensure stock readiness for major "spike" events like Black Friday.
Required Experience and Skills
- Education: A University Degree in Marketing, Business Management, or a related field.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in E-commerce, Digital Marketing, or Key Account Management, preferably within the FMCG or Beauty industry.
- Retail Knowledge: Deep understanding of the South African e-commerce ecosystem (Takealot, Clicks, Dis-Chem, Checkers Sixty60, etc.).
- Analytical Prowess: Proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools. You should be comfortable "crunching the numbers" to find the story behind the data.
- Tech Savvy: Familiarity with PIM (Product Information Management) tools and retailer backend portals.
- Creativity: An eye for digital design and content that stops the scroll.
Professional Attributes
- Entrepreneurial Spirit: You treat your category like your own business, showing proactivity and "test-and-learn" agility.
- Resilience: You thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift rapidly.
- Consumer-Centric: You are obsessed with the online shopper’s experience and always look for ways to remove friction in the buying process.
