 This role is a senior position requiring significant experience and a deep understanding of data engineering principles within the GCP ecosystem. The GCP Architect is responsible not only for building and maintaining data pipelines but also for managing the entire data lifecycle, from ingestion to syndication, with a strong emphasis on security and governance. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping the organization's data strategy and ensuring the delivery of high-quality data solutions. 

 

  • Data pipeline architecture and development involving designing, building, and maintaining robust and scalable data pipelines using GCP services like Dataflow, Cloud Composer, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Big Query and Pub/Sub.
  • Establishing and enforcing data governance policies and procedures. This includes defining data quality standards, access control mechanisms, and data lineage tracking. The role likely involves working with data cataloging and metadata management tools.
  • Defining and implementing the overall data architecture, including data storage solutions (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Datastore), data warehousing strategies, and data lake implementations.
  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
  • Strong understanding and experience in building Data Models. Experienced in assembling large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business

requirements. 

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual

processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc. 

  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to agile development teams. This includes code reviews, mentoring, and ensuring adherence to established architectural principles and coding standards.
  • Creating clear and concise architectural diagrams to communicate system designs and data flows to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Establishing and promoting best practices for coding, naming conventions, and design patterns. 
  • Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks in data pipelines and queries. This includes optimizing BigQuery queries, managing slot reservations, and leveraging on-demand slots effectively.
  • Working closely with product and technical leads, as well as the GCP Architecture and SRE teams.
  • Designing and implementing the processes for bringing data into the GCP environment from various sources. This could involve real-time streaming, batch uploads, or a combination of both. Expertise with different ingestion tools and techniques is crucial.
  • ETL (Extract, Transform, Load): While implied in the previous description, this explicitly calls out the responsibility for designing and managing the ETL processes. This includes data cleansing, transformation, and loading into target systems like data warehouses or data lakes.
  • Understanding data sharing mechanisms, access control, and potentially API development for distributing/syndicating data to different consumers, both internal and external.
  • Implementing appropriate authentication and authorization mechanisms, managing user roles and permissions, and ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations.

 

 What we are looking for:  

  • 7+ years of overall experience in product and/or data architecture, data engineering with a proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining complex data pipelines. Experience with various ETL tools and frameworks is essential.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in STEM areas such as Computer Science, Information Management, Big Data & Analytics, or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive experience with GCP data and analytics services (BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, BQ SQL, Cloud Run, Cloud Composer, Workflows etc.).
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and experience implementing data governance frameworks. Expertise in data modelling and data warehousing is crucial.
  • Experience leading and mentoring agile development teams. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in optimizing BigQuery queries and managing slot resources.
  • Ability to create clear and comprehensive architectural diagrams. Familiarity with various architectural patterns is a plus.
  • Experience in Terraform is a must and experience with IaaC.
  • Certifications such as GCP Professional Data Engineer & GCP Professional Cloud Architect are highly desirable. 

 

 

Business Intelligence and Domain Expertise: 

  • Background in CPG/Retail or eCommerce background with an understanding of the industry's key performance indicators (KPIs), such as sales growth, market share, customer lifetime value, etc.
  • Working with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into clear technical specifications for BI solutions.
  • Working with business analysts to identify the necessary data sources and ensure data quality for reporting and analysis.
  • Contributing to the development of BI strategies and roadmaps within the organization and helping to shape the direction of BI development
