POSITION PURPOSE

The Brand Video Manager will oversee Urban Decay video from concept to execution to delivery for internal shoots. They will manage video deadlines, be available for on-set production and own post-production and delivery. Their role is to take the vision of the Urban Decay brand: its voice, artwork, creative standards, and spirit, and translate it to video to create exciting, on-brand productions.


The Brand Video Manager works for the in-house Urban Decay Creative team and will be required to be on-set for shoots in our studio and as needed for meetings. They will work hand-in-hand with the Director of Production to source freelancers for edit, work with VP of Global Creative to set UD’s video edit style as a standard for all videos, manage post-production and help set company-wide edit and process standards for delivering video. Some projects might be as small as a twenty-second video shot on an iPhone by the Producer themselves, and some might be high-dollar productions involving a full crew of camera, lighting, catering, styling, makeup artist, motion graphics, and editor freelancers. Most projects will land somewhere in between.


The scope includes digital media content created for the Urban Decay YouTube channel and various social media outlets (how-to videos, testimonials, behind-the-scenes), video for use in stores (ambient graphics, brand sizzle reels), education/training videos for use by the sales field and our retail partners (product and selling demonstrations), and miscellaneous internal corporate videos and presentations.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

CREATE VIDEOS    

  • Aid in creative campaigns for in-store, digital, and social needs
  • Create video for use in stores (ambient graphics, brand sizzle reels)
  • Set creative edit stylistic tone for video for UD
  • Manage freelance editors as needed
  • Work with the education team to create training videos for use by the sales field and our retail partners (product and selling demonstrations)
  • Develop miscellaneous internal corporate videos and presentations as needed

 

WORK CREATIVELY

  • The Brand Video Manager must have a creative eye. Their role is to take the vision of the Urban Decay brand: its voice, artwork, creative standards, and spirit, and translate it to video to create exciting, on-brand productions. Ensure the pacing, lighting, shooting, and graphic styles are all consistent with the brand and communicate the desired narrative
  • Storyboard videos
  • Write scripts as needed, scripts can be refined by in-house copywriter
  • Provide notes to editors
  • Set design, lighting strategy
  • Video editing is required
  • The Video Producer may choose to shoot and edit content as needed

DEVELOP PROCEDURES

  • Create and enforce a video style guide consistent with established graphic standards for print The style guide will be utilized by the Video Producer and any third parties hired for video work
  • Archive existing video assets. Create archiving standards for future use, such as naming conventions and file size/type requirements

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Source vendors for video shoots, including camera, lighting, and sound crews, motion graphics designers, editors, production companies (for large projects)
  • Manage outside vendors to manage additional projects, deadlines and budgets
  • Track costs for each project and for the overall video production budget
  • Advise and recommend equipment purchases for long term cost saving.
  • Obtain and file releases from talent
  • Hold castings when needed

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:

 

  • Awareness of media and social platform best practices for video editing and production
  • Highly organized and able to apply and standardize a video naming convention for UD
  • Creative storytelling abilities – Can take a concept and storyboard each element so the desired narrative, message, and tone are communicated
  • Ability to direct talent and crew. Give constructive feedback that creates a positive on-set environment and produces desired results. Can keep a production running on time throughout the workday
  • Video editing skills is a must; this job will require employee to edit videos in-house often
  • Basic knowledge of the technical aspects of video files: Familiar with the appropriate file formats, sizes, and requirements for various mediums
  • Familiarity with graphics software, in order to better communicate with the in-house design team or third-party motion graphics teams: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, etc.
  • Some video shooting and editing ability a big plus. Video Producer may choose to shoot or edit small projects themselves to save time and/or budget
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with both video crew and in-house corporate “clients”. Knowledge of all necessary production terminology, procedures, and equipment. Must be able to implement clients’ notes
  • Possess contacts within the film/television/production industry, especially crew and editing
  • Ability to operate “prosumer”-level cameras and related equipment
  • Meets deadlines. Detail-oriented. Process-driven.
  • Basic equipment troubleshooting ability
  • Passion for or experience in the beauty and/or luxury category is a plus
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

 

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Education/Experience/ Licenses or Certificates:

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in digital, video, television, or film production. Must include on-set experience.

 

SOFTWARE:

  • A minimum of familiarity with editing software, such as Premiere Pro
  • Familiarity with graphics software, in order to better communicate with the in-house design team or third-party motion graphics teams: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Basic computer skills
  • Resourceful online
