Application Manager – Gross Margin

Compass is the solution used by all controllers at L’Oreal to build Budget and Trend simulation, and to report Actuals. Compass holds an analytical P&L by products, by customers and by boutiques and by Budgetary natures for costs.

Compass is built on IBM Analytics technologies: Cognos Analytics & Planning Analytics/TM1.
Gross margin is a module of Compass. It is focused on the gross margin analysis and creates a bridge between operations and sales organization (Affaires Marché) within the group.

Key Responsibilities

The Gross margin application manager is integrated in Compass Team. With his team composed of 5 people, he ensures the smooth operations of the application   

  • Manages the projects of implementation / output of products and participates in the main stages of the implementation, 
  • Oversees the operation of application by optimizing development and performance and providing service to ensure stability and the security of applications and avoid any potential interruption of service, 
  • Defines and manages support services including KPIs, Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Metrics 
  • Analyzes the root causes of incidents and proposes appropriate action plans, 
  • Ensures corrective, scalable and technical maintenance of applications; coordinates the various interventions required to manage maintenance incidents; 
  • Oversees new requests and design solutions that address the overall consistency of the system, 
  • Support the business in the definition of their needs to translate them into specifications. 
  • Adapt / configure / develop applications, select the appropriate technical options, set up functional tests and take responsibility for validating developments before applications are deployed, 
  • Produces documents and models describing products, services, components or applications in order to achieve the required level of compliance in the corresponding documentation; verifies their validity and updating and ensures that the functions and characteristics are appropriately documented, 
  • Participates in the selection of suppliers as well as outsourced services by contract; understands and manages supplier contracts (technical, commercial and legal aspects), 
  • Develops and maintains an effective relationship and dialogue with internal users and / or suppliers, - Coordinates human resources internally / externally within his scope responsibility, 
  • Ensures the development of expertise and know-how in his area of responsibility.


  • Master’s degree in Information systems with knowledge on Finance or Master’s degree in Finance with knowledge on Information systems
  • Fluent English
  • Proven successful experience in appropriating and translating business needs into functional and technical requirements
  • Proven successful experience on all project phases: design, build, test, training, support…
  • Proven successful experience on run activities: maintenance, support, evolutions…
  • Capacity to lead a team
  • Ability to deliver re-usable and scalable business process enhancements with experiences related to financial domain
  • Possess an understanding of Financial Operations and how it supports the business at large
  • Ability to manage multiple timelines and priorities.
  • You are rigorous, curious and autonomous
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem solving skills; excellent communication skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work with business users to gather requirements and manage scope.
  • 3+ years of experience delivering Business Intelligence solutions
  • Strong knowledge and experience including design with OLAP/multidimensional cubes
  • Provide hands-on financial modeling support for a variety of assignments.
  • Proven knowledge of IBM TM1
  • Knowledge and experience with Cognos BI is a plus.
  • Other planning solutions experience such as Anaplan, SAP BPC, Hyperion Planning, etc. is a plus.
