IT Director, Search Engine Optimization & Site Performance Lead

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a performance-mindset to join our dynamic and fast-paced eCommerce team. This individual will collaborate with technology and service partners to conduct audits to assess site performance, SEO, accessibility and work with internal and external teams to implement solutions. The solution minded candidate will cover the spectrum of applications across media, ecommerce, mobile, social, CRM, retail, analytics and much more for the US, Canada and Latin America. 

This candidate will act as the primary contact for all aspects of site performance and work closely with stakeholders from L’Oreal brands, office of Chief Marketing & Digital Officer (CDMO) and technology partners, including being responsible for enforcing standards with clear measurements for high performing sites. 

This role would best be filled by an individual with extensive experience in supporting high-performing sites that is passionate about problem-solving and is energized by the thought of putting online sites on the Digital IQ index. 

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Tracking, measuring, triaging and improving site performance across eCommerce and content sites across Americas (US, Canada, LATAM) 

  • Manage day-to-day and periodic performance, SEO, accessibility assessments and audits with the help of technology and service partners 

  • Conduct 1st level of analysis of audits for business and IT tasks with the help of SMEs and/or architects 

  • Meet with business and IT stakeholders to articulate performance deficiencies and plan for remediations 

  • Partner with business, IT and cross-functional teams to measure and monitor performance and provide best practice recommendations across technology initiatives 

  • Provide valuable and timely feedback early in development cycle to identify potential performance issues 

  • Worked closely with development and operations in identifying performance issues in tiered environment 

  • Lead performance and load testing efforts for site launches, holiday readiness, stabilization efforts 

  • Design appropriate performance tests to isolate bottlenecks and performance issues. 

  • Flag down potential backend and frontend performance issues at the start of the development stage 

  • Provide technical assistance, enforce standards and advice to ensure smooth system performance in the development stage 

  • Work closely with global and local IT teams to drive closure on technical SEO and accessibility issues 

  • Advise effective tests to check system performance and stability with QA partners of respective application domains 

  • Understand the roles of reliability and capacity  

  • Know-how to create test data and data management pertinent to performance and SEO topics 

  • Work with industry standard testing tools and service partners to prepare dashboards and infer performance snapshots (e.g. Catchpoint / Rigor) 

  • Communicate performance issues with business stakeholders and assist with planning for merchandising, content, creative type of remediation activities 

  • Analyze audit test results and provide appropriate recommendations for solutions 

  • Work with internal and external engineers and development staff to perform bug fixes 

  • Assist with root cause analysis (RCA) of performance issues and prepare corrective actions 

  • Oversee system performance lifecycle 

  • Conduct weekly, monthly workshops with business and IT stakeholders to review performance and SEO results for brand sites 

  • Analyze tests results and work with various dependent teams (site migrations, enhancements, global, business, Support, etc.) 

  • Provide technical assistance to improve system performance, capacity, reliability and scalability 

  • Stay abreast and current with changes in the industry measurement standards and SEO landscape (ex: Google’s Core Web Vitals) 


Technical Skills: 

  • Knowledge of scripting and automation – Python, Shell, Powershell, Jenkins 

  • Familiar with testing tools – Apache, JMeter, Selenium  

  • Familiar with developer tools – Pagespeed, Catchpoint, Lighthouse, Webpagetest, Rigor 

  • Familiar with web core vitals, SEO, CSS, JavaScript, HTML 

General Skills :  

  • 7+ years of experience with web technologies, broad based IT knowledge, natural problem solver, project management expertise,  development / technical experience, experience operating and managing ecommerce sites, ability to share and lead business workshops for remediation with business and technical teams 

  • Experience with performance engineering for online sites and testing 

  • Strong understanding of all tiers of web requests (CDN, network, web, app, database, 3rd party) will be required 

  • Knowledge on exterior components such as external ad networks and analytics 

  • Communication – both technically and at a business level 

  • Familiarity with industry standard Content Management System (CMS) platforms
