Position:  Engineering Co-Op

Responsibilities:  The objective of the L’Oreal USA Engineering Co-op is to provide “real-world experience” for the intern and to provide an opportunity to evaluate future career opportunities.  Engineering Interns work in a variety of settings and have diverse responsibilities.  The typical co-op is assigned to a manufacturing unit and given specific projects to develop and implement over the course of the internship.  Each co-op is given the opportunity to develop hands-on skills using the latest technology.  Co-op's have the opportunity to turn creative ideas into practical application, and to obtain valuable knowledge and skills in both technical and managerial aspects of operating a manufacturing plant.

Typical responsibilities include:

Assisting engineers in the development of major capital projects
~ Technology Improvement ~ Automation ~ Operational    Improvements

Organizing and implementing engineering projects
~ SMED ~ Total Productive Maintenance ~ Safety ~ Quality ~ Environmental

Resolving quality related problems that arise in processes, systems, methods or procedures

Developing software programs
~ Databases ~ Intranet websites ~ Presentation slide shows ~ Computer-based training programs

Gathering, collating and reporting key data related to manufacturing operations
~ Labor Variance ~ Equipment Downtime ~ Quality Rejects

Presentations and Training to All Levels
~ Making Presentations on Project Results ~ Training employees in New Procedures

Equipment installation and acceptance testing
~ Auto carton loaders ~ Line automation ~ Vision systems ~ Robotics

Productivity Improvement Projects
~ Analyze line downtime and causes ~ Determine projects/actions to improve productivity

Requirements:  Candidates must be majoring in a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering program (Industrial, Mechanical or Chemical preferred), with a minimum 3.0 GPA, and targeted to graduate in December, 2012 or May, 2013.  Previous internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.   The ability to meet deadlines, to demonstrate excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently are also very important.  An ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is essential, as is the ability to build positive working relationships with all levels of the organization.  Strong PC aptitude and skills, including MS Office Suite, are required.

Salary:  L’Oreal USA pays Engineering ICo-ops an hourly wage based on current state averages provided by the University of Arkansas.  Interns are responsible for their own transportation.
