ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Director, Data Science role will join the North America Commerce Analytics team focused on Advanced Analytics for the commercial organization, with a cross divisional focus. The role will be for the Commerce Analytics team’s data science strategy and roadmap, responsible for extracting knowledge and insights from data using a combination of statistical analysis, machine learning, programming, and domain expertise to analyze large datasets, identify patterns, and build predictive models.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
OVERALL
- Manages another data scientist and sets the technical direction for the team.
- Oversees multiple projects and initiatives.
- Develops data science strategy and roadmap. Influences senior leadership on data-driven decisions.
- Develops and implements best practices for data science within the organization.
LEADERSHIP
- Provides direction/basic operational guidance to small IC team; oversees daily activities. In certain instances, may be an individual contributor with deep subject matter expertise.
PROJECT COMPLEXITY
- Leads complex, multi-disciplinary projects with significant business impact. Deals with large-scale datasets and complex analytical challenges. Handles ambiguity and evolving requirements.
TECHNICAL:
DATA COLLECTION & ANALYSIS
- Data Collection and Preparation: Gather data from various sources, which can include databases, APIs, web scraping, and sensor data; clean, transform, and prepare this data for analysis,
- Leverage Exploratory Data Analysis techniques to understand the underlying structure of the data, identify trends, and formulate hypotheses
- Create visualizations, calculate summary statistics, and look for anomalies or outliers in the data
- Select, transform, and create relevant features (variables) from the existing data to improve the performance of machine learning models
MODEL DEVELOPMENT & MAINTENANCE
- Develop and train machine learning models to predict future outcomes or classify data into different categories
- Evaluate, model its performance using various metrics and validate the model on unseen data to ensure it generalizes well and isn't overfitting to the training data
- Deploy and monitor model's performance over time and retrain it as needed to maintain accuracy
SKILLS:
- 8-12+ years of experience. Proven leadership experience in managing data science teams and delivering significant business impact.
- Deep expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning, and other advanced analytical techniques.
- Experience with building and deploying production-ready models.
- Proficient in core data science languages (Python, R, SQL), statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data visualization tools.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies. Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Experience in data story telling using visualizations to provide insight and gain buy in from senior leadership (incl. c-suite)
- Strong business acumen and strategic thinking. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
