Overview

The Business Analyst is an expert at compiling informed consumer insights from multiple qualitative and quantitative sources. They work very closely with the other members of the ULTA team, Brand Marketers, e-Retail team, Operations, and Category Development to share conclusions and trends that translate into insights. They support the ULTA Account Director in all management aspects of the business.

Mission and defining characteristics

  • Assists build of analysis of sales fundamentals in order to gain share profitably at ULTA
  • Supports Director with brand selling stories and tracking performance
  • Category expert for the full Brand portfolios and competitive products at ULTA

Customer Developer

  • Analyze the growth levers relevant to the customer with specific focus on the shopper so selling is through shopper insights
  • Support the Brand Sales customer strategy with Account Director through detailed analysis
  • Analyze quarterly member health scorecard to leverage insights to plan, prioritize and optimize sales performance

Team Contributor

  • Support Account Director on all fundamental analysis required
  • Drive the business as a key team member, by collaborating with multifunctional teams and leveraging all insights to drive brand growth
  • Provide monthly comprehensive recap on entire business, track sales of the category on a weekly basis and provide key highlights, challenges, gaps, and opportunities to the Division  
  • Support Account Director with development and upkeep of promotional calendars, distribution grids, presentation materials, checkbook/APEX management, pipe and display files, etc.
  • Support management of Account specific trade promotions and activity from inception to fruition and report results by working with Brand Marketing partners to ensure National strategy is executed at the Retailer specific level
  • Assist Director with analyses and recommendations for account specific programs and events, forecasting shipments and POS, new item sales tracking, promotional ROI analysis, returns and markdown tracking
  • Maintain and update SKU catalogue
  • Manage annual ULTA General Manager’s Conference
  • Manage Customer Marketing Budget
  • New item set up with all product attributes and metadata (O&O since all instore items are on dotcom) – collaboration with e-Retail team
  • Performance tracking and coordination of digital media and search campaigns for seamless execution, business acceleration and optimal ROI

Category Support

  • Monitor reviews and ratings and consumer sentiment through social listening to report back learnings and insights
  • Conduct competitive research including new launches, pricing, and sales drivers
  • Track trends that impact the category (via Google/SEO, etc.) and translate into insights
  • Engage multifunctional support for strategy implementation and 360 degree growth levers for category

Operational Support

  • Reviews weekly inventory levels for key items and opportunities
  • Investigate weekly cuts to identify causes and work to rectify 
  • Main Supply Chain contact facing customer as well as internal teams
  • Support ULTA business to optimize service level and inventory. Responsible for the stock equation (production plan and inventory) and ensures the quality of the demand for the brands they manage
  • Coordinate launches to optimize service level and inventory
  • Work closely with the Promo Ops, MSL and Demand Planning teams on promotional programs
  • Proactively monitoring and resolving low or out-of-stock conditions 
  • Work closely with the Account Director to determine SKU demand opportunities and sell-thru implications for additional stock or potential old age risks. (Review, analyze and project all product returns in partnership with the Director)  
  • Work closely with Operations to ensure appropriate lifts in forecast 
  • Work closely with inventory management and customer service to discern product availability implications to assess shipment risk and the need for demand planning interaction for future order needs 

Results Contributor

  • Owns the analysis of sales, inventory, promo and cascading to teams
  • Develop reporting for all initiatives and key opportunities
  • Support Account Director on eComm objectives and growing e-share of business for category
  • Deliver sales target and brand sales fundamentals for category incl. sell in/sell out, net sales, OTIF, retail execution and ROI
  • Forecast accuracy
  • Achieve top strategic priorities for relevant category

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum 2-3 years’ experience in a business analysis role
  • Proven knowledge of retailer strategies and objectives
  • Strong knowledge of retailer data/syndicated data
  • Deep knowledge of beauty and personal care, specifically for given category
