Join our Packaging Science Centre team as a Master Scientist - Cellulosic Fibre-based Packaging.

ABOUT THE TEAM 

Our packaging teams make a major contribution to the creation of new products by working closely with the Development, Research & Innovation, Marketing, Purchasing and Supplier teams.

The mission of our Packaging teams is to create innovative, functional packaging that meets the expectations of consumers around the world, while respecting the major challenges: 4 fundamentals (“Safety”, “Quality”, “Responsiveness” and “Profitability”) and 3 consumer challenges (“Performance”, “Sustainability” and “Experience”).

As a Master Scientist - Cellulosic Fibre-based Packaging, you will report to the Packaging Science Center Director. This opportunity is based in Clichy, Paris in a completely renovated building adapted for people with reduced mobility. 


THE MISSION  

 

This is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity for someone experienced in and passionate about paper packaging research and who is committed to create significant changes for the beauty industry. Part of your mission will be:

 

  • Forecasting: Staying ahead of the curve on paper packaging innovations globally. This requires research and watch skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to translate trends of the industry into strategic recommendations and opportunities for l’Oréal.
  • Scouting/assessing/reporting: Use and develop existing tools and collaborations to identify new materials and new technologies, make pre-assessment to identify opportunities and report them to the packaging teams.
  • Building knowledge : Engage projects with external partners on selected scientific topics to support positions and trends with facts and evidence, statements and to recommend way of solving issues. Consolidate and share knowledge with internal stakeholders.
  • Supporting: Support packaging R&D projects with scientific expertise, mobilize networks to solve issues. 
  • Representing : Bring L’Oréal’s packaging voice in international conferences, consortia/alliances/collaborative research projects. 

 

WHO YOU ARE 

  • Experience: A well proven experience (10+ years) in paper applied R&D with a large connection to all paper ecosystems worldwide (industrial and R&D players – papermakers, paper converters, paper suppliers).
  • Communication: Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken) are crucial. Understanding the target audience, ability to articulate complex scientific phenomenon in multiple level according to the audience are a pre-requisite. 
  • Scientific Proficiency: Knowledge on paper, paper mechanics, paper barrier treatment, paper packaging and supporting sciences (Mechanics, Surface physical chemistry, adhesion, heat and mass transfer…). A good level of understanding of paper recyclability, LCA, cost assessment, safety and food contact regulations is more than welcome.
  • Interpersonal Skills: The role requires collaboration with diverse teams across different geographies, emphasizing the need for strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
