RESEARCH & INNOVATION ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

This position requires an inspirational leader with an extensive analytical background who possesses strategic thinking, excellent diagnostic and collaboration skills with a passion for consumer centricity and the development of others. The Analytical Chemistry department, a key partner in L’Oréal Research & Innovation, delivers accurate, efficient and sustainable analytical solutions to support innovations. Their goal is to be ultimate problem solvers, characterizing everything from the purest of raw materials to the most complex mixtures. This position will lead a wide range of activities including but not limited to method development, validation, stability testing, trace analysis, and claims substantiation and contribute to the resolution of complex problems within tight time constraints.

 

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Provide overall strategic functional direction and set objectives for the Analytical Chemistry department
  2. Lead and develop a team of highly skilled and experienced analytical chemists by promoting team work, collaboration and an inclusive work culture
  3. Establish and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the Company’s strategic vision is met through sharing of knowledge, expertise and relevant information
  4. Develop and implement best practices in order to ensure that all data generated by the Analytical Chemistry department meet L’Oréal’s highest Safety and Quality standards and regulatory guidelines
  5. Drive transformation initiatives and mobilize stakeholders; generate innovative strategies through creative thinking
  6. Remain current on industry specific issues and novel analytical techniques and maintain external relationships to identify potential collaborators for the exploration of new analytical technologies
  7. Actively participate in L’Oréal’s international analytical technical communities and ensure local activities and initiatives are aligned with the international strategic frame

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum MS degree in Chemistry, with a focus on Analytical Chemistry preferred; PhD preferred
  • 15+ years progressive leadership and technical experience
  • Experience in the cosmetics, personal care or consumer goods industries
  • Demonstrated proficiency in various analytical techniques including chromatography, spectroscopy, microscopy and wet chemistry
  • Advanced knowledge of cosmetic ingredient chemistry and substrate (skin and hair) chemistry and biology
  • Extensive knowledge of FDA and Health Canada regulations related to OTC products, stability testing and expiration dating
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an emphasis on presenting scientific data to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Organization and time management skills necessary to prioritize and simultaneously lead multiple projects to completion in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and strategic influencing skills
