About the Role

L'Oréal R&I North Asia & China Communications is the sole interface between Corporate CA&E's full spectrum of expertise — media, social media, content, messaging, creative, public affairs, issue & crisis, and event management — and R&I centers across the North Asia Zone (China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore). This role owns the communications strategy and execution for the entire zone, with the majority of day-to-day activity concentrated in China, home to R&I's largest lab footprint and stakeholder base in the region.

You will act as R&I North Asia's "internal journalist": someone who can identify the story within complex scientific and organizational realities, and translate it with precision and impact — for media, government, employees, and consumers alike, across all four markets. You will also serve as the key connector between R&I and Brand Marketing/Communications teams, translating scientific innovation and R&I credentials into compelling, brand-ready narratives — including through visual identity and imagery — that elevate the "Science" pillar within brand campaigns and consumer-facing activations throughout the zone.

This is a high-visibility, high-ownership position, managing junior staff, interns, and external agencies, and requiring day-to-day partnership with R&I leadership, scientists, and cross-functional stakeholders across China and the broader North Asia Zone.

Key Responsibilities

Science-to-Brand Storytelling & Cross-Functional Liaison

  • Act as the primary liaison between R&I North Asia and Brand Marketing/Communications teams across the zone, ensuring R&I's scientific assets, credentials, and innovation stories are effectively surfaced and integrated into brand campaigns and consumer-facing activations
  • Translate complex scientific and clinical data into emotionally resonant, brand-ready narratives — including key visuals and imagery — that reinforce L'Oréal's "Science" positioning and product credibility
  • Co-organize joint events with brand teams to showcase R&I's scientific edge around breakthrough product launches in the region
  • Develop and oversee the visual identity and imagery associated with R&I North Asia's science storytelling, ensuring consistency with global brand and reputation standards

Strategic Communications & Content

  • Develop and execute integrated communication campaigns (messaging, key visuals, presentation decks, scripts, videos) for major R&I North Asia milestones and initiatives, anchored primarily in China with adaptation for other zone markets as relevant
  • Serve as lead writer/editor for all R&I North Asia communications materials — press Q&A, whitepapers, executive talking points, internal narratives — holding a high bar for written and spoken Chinese and English

Zone-Wide Coordination & Best Practice Sharing

  • Own the overall North Asia zone R&I communications calendar and priorities, ensuring alignment and consistent narrative across China, Japan, Korea, and Singapore
  • Build and maintain relationships with local Corp communications teams in Japan, Korea, and Singapore, adapting toolkits and playbooks developed in China for zone-wide use where relevant
  • Represent R&I North Asia communications in regional/global forums and reporting

Stakeholder & Visitor Engagement

  • Own and continuously improve the R&I lab visit program in China (media, government, regulators, scientific community, NGOs, students, employees), including logistics, standardization (playbooks/manuals), and scaling — with potential to extend the model to other zone markets over time
  • Represent R&I North Asia on-site at major exhibitions (CIIE, Carbon Neutrality Expo, World AI Conference, CAME, etc.)

Media & PR

  • Partner with Corporate CA&E to plan and execute PR/media strategies across the zone, tracking media placements and PR value
  • Support policy/public affairs engagement (e.g., IBLAC-style forums), including drafting position papers and briefing materials

Thought Leadership & Spokesperson Development

  • Build and drive R&I North Asia's thought-leadership positioning through varied formats — whitepapers, industry stage appearances, dedicated platforms/events — establishing L'Oréal R&I as beauty science leader in the region
  • Coordinate and coach internal scientific spokespeople on media/public speaking readiness

Internal Communications & Employee Engagement

  • Own R&I North Asia's internal communications strategy and activations, including newsletters, town halls, and change communications, to inform and engage employees across the zone
  • Drive a strong sense of pride and belonging among R&I North Asia employees, particularly during periods of organizational transformation
  • Plan internal culture/community events (e.g., Family Day) and translate R&I strategy into physical/experiential formats (campus displays, exhibits)

Team & Agency Management

  • Manage interns and external agencies (PR, creative, event)— briefing, quality control, budget oversight, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • 8–10 years of relevant experience in corporate communications, PR, media, or public affairs (in-house or agency); scientific/R&D communication background not required
  • Exceptional writing and spoken fluency in both Mandarin and English — genuine command of language and narrative instinct, not just competence
  • Business-level English sufficient to coordinate effectively with Japan, Korea, and Singapore counterparts (additional Japanese/Korean language skills a plus but not required)
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple stakeholders (senior leaders, media, government, cross-functional teams) simultaneously; regional/cross-market coordination experience a strong plus
  • Experience managing junior staff and/or external agencies
  • Experience with internal communications and/or visual/creative content development a plus

Competency

  • Learning agility — genuine curiosity, habit of reflection/retrospective and continuous growth
  • Judgment — balances intuition and data/analysis; reads organizational dynamics accurately without being consumed by them
  • Resilience — takes feedback and setbacks constructively
  • Ownership & drive — goes the extra mile, gets things done amid ambiguity and constant change, without needing perfect conditions
  • Empathy & transparency — builds genuine trust with peers and stakeholders
  • Cross-cultural agility — comfortable coordinating across diverse markets and cultural contexts within the North Asia Zone
